The Palestinian International Cooperation Agency concluded an exploratory visit lasted for four days to Zimbabwe, aimed to start the implementation of a cooperation program between Palestine and Zimbabwe in the medical filed.
PICA dispatched doctor Alaa Azmi head of Pediatric Spinal Surgery project to do an ‘Exploratory Fact Finding Mission’ in Zimbabwe, to develop the detailed future cooperation program of transferring the Palestinian knowledge & expertise in medicine. Dr. Alaa diagnosed patients, defined the needs, and assessed equipment, supplies and medical infrastructure by conducting different meetings with Ministry of Health and other partners.
Following the visit of Dr. Alaa, PICA will transfer a medical team next month to conduct pediatric spinal surgeries based on the needs of the government of Zimbabwe, because there is a lack of competent medical qualification in this field in Zimbabwe and Sub Saharan countries.
Through this step, PICA aims at creating a successful model, which will be transferred from Zimbabwe to other African countries.
This project is implemented by PICA, in cooperation with the Islamic Development Bank and the United Nations Development Programme as part of “solidarity through development in Africa” program.
