Believing in the importance of enhancing the relation between the State of Palestine and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation main bodies and institutions. To contribute to the OIC efforts and its member states with an aim to promote programs related to development.
PICA welcomed a high level delegation from SESRIC,one of the most important subsidiary organs of OIC responsible for promoting social and economic development among member states.
The two-days SESRIC mission to Palestine completed what was agreed upon in Ankara last year during PICA visit to SESRIC HQ, which was concluded in the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the two parties to strengthen South-South cooperation.
The two parties set a timetable for the agreed programs including capacity building activities for PICA team and the support to the agency in establishing a database for Palestinian experts and centers of expertise and to promote this pool of experts through SESRIC and other partners.
PICA held a roundtable with the participation of a number of ministries and national institutions which scope of work is linked to SESRIC responsibilities: of which the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of National Economy, the Ministry of Tourism and Antiques, the Ministry of Local Government, the Water Authority, Birzeit University, Palestine Technical University – Kadoorie, Ministry of Labor, Ministry of Agriculture and State Audit and Administrative Control Bureau.
The roundtable started with a speech delivered by PICA Director General, Imad Al-Zuhairi, welcoming Sesric delegation and participants, stressing the importance of the visit in enhancing cooperation between SESRIC and national institutions through the implementation of a range of activities that will contribute to the work of these institutions through PICA plan of action.
Ambassador Nabil Dabour, SESRIC Director General, explained the center’s interest in supporting Palestinian national institutions and in building the capacities of their staff through the center scope of work including in areas of statistics, economic reports and capacity building.
Ambassador Ahmad Rwaidi, representative of OIC to the State of Palestine, stressed the importance of development cooperation and partnership with OIC bodies and organizations and the programs that aim at achieving common objectives.
The roundtable included interaction and discussion by the distinguished representatives of Palestinian partners, institutions and ministries. The institutions presented proposals and ideas and discussed the possibilities to benefit from the programs that SESRIC provides in the fields of development and the exchange of expertise.
Through this program, PICA and SESRIC are looking forward to a clear and feasible plan of action that will reflect the priorities by the parties and meet the expressed needs that will serve our national interests.
The Turkish delegation met with H.E President Mahmoud Abbas in his office in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister, Dr. Ziad Abu Amr, Advisor of the President for Diplomatic Affairs, Majdi Khalidi, PICA Director General, Imad Al-Zuhairi, Ambassador Ahmad Rwaidi, OIC representative in Palestine and PICA Third Secretary, Sherine Al-Far. During the meeting, Amb. Nabil Dabour briefed H.E. President Abbas on the objectives of the visit and the results of the meeting, stressing on SESRIC priority to increase its programs and activities in Palestine.
