Ramallah, June 12, 2024 -The Palestinian International Cooperation Agency (PICA), in collaboration with the Technical Assistance and Information Exchange instrument of the European Commission (TAIEX), has successfully concluded a comprehensive training course for the Palestinian Rapid Response and Rescue Team (PRRRT). This course, featuring experts from the Italian and Spanish civil defense, equipped team members with vital skills in logistical support, advanced and basic life support, and casualty care in post-disaster situations, ensuring their performance aligns with international standards.
The training was inaugurated by H.E. Ambassador Imad Zuhairi, Assistant Minister for International Cooperation and Director-General of PICA, and Mr. Ibrahim Laafia, Head of Cooperation at the EU Representation to Palestine. Ambassador Zuhairi emphasized that PICA remains dedicated to advancing national capacities in post-disaster relief missions, underscoring its pivotal role in fostering national resilience and international cooperation. This initiative marks a significant step in strengthening the capabilities of the PRRRT, reflecting PICA’s unwavering commitment to humanitarian excellence. Mr. Laafia reiterated the importance of the partnership with PICA and the significance of this training programme, which will be followed by two subsequent training programmes to further solidify the competence of the PRRRT.
Participants in the training included members from the Civil Defense, National Security Forces, Syndicate of Engineers, and Syndicate of Doctors. This collaborative effort enhances the team’s skills and experience, preparing them to effectively participate in various missions and address humanitarian needs.
