2016 – Palestinian Relief Mission to Ecuador

Background: On April 16th, a deadly earthquake hit Ecuador, President Mahmoud Abbas gave instructions to go to Ecuador to participate in the international relief efforts and help victims of the earthquake. Immediately, in response to the President’s instructions, PICA sent its rapid response and relief team to Ecuador in cooperation with the Palestinian Ministry of Health to support and treat the victims of the earthquake.
Purpose: Relief and treatment to the victims of the earthquake as the State of Palestine wanted to show solidarity and gratitude to Ecuador for its continuous support of the Palestinian cause.
Outputs: 1. Distributing medical and relief supplies to the affected areas. 2. Conducting medical consultations and surgeries. 3. Promoting the Palestinian identity worldwide and enhancing the role of the State of Palestine, as Palestine was the only country outside Europe and Latin America that sent a rescue team to Ecuador. 4. Strengthening the relations between the State of Palestine and Ecuador.
