2017 – PICA Medical Program in Pakistan

Background: PICA shared its most important and prolific program in spinal and pediatric care surgeries with Pakistan to show solidarity with the people of Pakistan in accordance with the 2030 Agenda. Specialists in the field of spinal and pediatric surgeries were recruited to initiate the establishment of an excellent pediatric spinal unit in the Children’s Hospital of Lahore.
Purpose: This Program aims at establishing a pediatric spinal unit in the Children’s Hospital in Lahore.
Outputs: 1. A fully trained medical team in Lahore capable of performing sensitive pediatric spinal cord surgeries in the future. 2. 3 pediatric spinal surgeries were performed.
Activities: The mission consisted of three parts: 1. Diagnosing patients. 2. Performing spinal cord surgeries for children. 3. Training Pakistani doctors by conducting lectures and workshops to explain the techniques and supplies used in pediatric surgeries.
Working Framework: Cooperation in the health sector, specifically using the concept of TOT (Training of Trainers) to transfer knowledge and sharing experience.
