2018 – Palestinian Relief Mission to Indonesia

Background: In September 2018, Indonesia suffered a deadly Tsunami that caused thousands of victims to flee their homes after the disaster. Following this incident, PICA planned to deport the Palestinian Rapid Response and Rescue Team (PRRRT) to the affected islands to provide medical support. Later on, the Indonesian Government declared the affected islands a military closed zone due to the dangerous impact the tsunami has caused including the spread of diseases. Following this declaration, PICA decided to deport a relief mission to contribute in providing basic emergency needs to help the Indonesian people after the area was officially closed.
Purpose: This mission aimed at supporting the ongoing efforts of the Indonesian Government to overcome the impact of the deadly disaster.
Outputs: 1. Providing 200 tents and 50 electric generators, which supported 4000 people who had fled their homes from the disaster. 2. Decreasing the deadly impacts of tsunami by providing humanitarian and physiological aid (24000 water bottles, 500 rice bags and 500 children biscuit boxes).
Activities: PICA took immediate action after the tsunami occurred by consulting with different suppliers to purchase the highest quality equipment. The mission also included official meetings with the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to coordinate the mission, discuss future cooperation, and finalize the delivery of the emergency supplies to the Indonesian Government in the Palestinian Embassy.
