2018 – PICA Exploratory Mission to Nicaragua

Background: The Palestinian International Cooperation Agency (PICA) has launched an exploratory visit to Nicaragua to strengthen and solidify the bonds between the two nations under the umbrella of solidarity and development in many fields regarding knowledge sharing in agricultural and medical arenas. PICA staff and experts have met with the minister of foreign affairs (Dennis Monkada) to renew commitment for the signed Memorandum of Understanding between Palestine and Nicaragua. Afterward, PICA met with all the targeted ministries for the future cooperation in relevant fields, including the ministries and centers of agriculture as well as the ministry of health.
Purpose: The aim of this mission is to transfer the Palestinian knowledge and expertise to the Republic of Nicaragua through different mechanisms of cooperation that focus on South-South cooperation. The main scope for now is medical, agricultural, investment and innovation-related interventions.
Outputs: 1. Progression in the Nicaraguan agricultural expertise. 2. Touching the needs of simple families through a scalable project that can be implemented in houses. 3. Preparation for Operative medical interventions for orthopedic patients. 4. Preparation for Capacity building for medical teams in university hospital and medical schools.
Activities: 1. Needs assessment conducted with the different ministries to exactly determine the programs including meetings with the minister of health and minister of agriculture. 2. Meeting with the embassy team and the Palestinian community in Nicaragua to create an efficient network that can help and facilitate PICA activities in Nicaragua.
Working Framework: PICA will utilize the public and private sector resources and capacities to fulfill the needs of the Nicaraguan government and people through project and programs specifically designed to develop the Nicaraguan agricultural and medical sector in the primary stage.
