2020 – PICAs Medical Program in Sierra Leone

Implementing Organizations: Palestinian International Cooperation Agency – PICASDG: 
Background: A Palestinian medical delegation consisting of seven surgeons in the fields of: Gynecology and Obstetrics, Emergency Doctor, Ophthalmology Specialist, Internist, Pediatric Surgeon, Diabetics Doctor and a Family medicine doctor was sent to Guinea to enhance bilateral south-south cooperation
Purpose: Transferring the Palestinian medical knowhow to provide treatment to the patients who need specific surgeries in the mentioned medical specializations in the two central hospitals in Freetown.
Outputs: 1. Conducted 72 Surgeries to children and adults. 2. Performed 70 Medical examinations to different medical cases in the hospital. 3. Provided medical consultations including practical training to the Leonean doctors during the surgeries. 4. Implemented more than 10 Medical Lectures to medical school graduates. 5. Medical checkups on the Lebanese Community.
Activities: 1. Conducting different visits to hospitals and medical centers in Freetown to learn more about the health sector. 2. Official meetings with the First Lady to discuss future cooperation. 3. Conducted surgeries in different medical fields especially in Ophthalmology and pediatric. 4. Press conference at the closing ceremony of the medical week at Connaught Hospital. 5. Medical checkups on the Lebanese Community living in Freetown.
Working Framework: Technical Cooperation – Enhancing Bilateral South-South cooperation through transferring the Palestinian knowhow in the medical field to support the Health sector in Sierra Leone.
