2023 – PICA’s Relief Mission to Derna, Libya

SDG: 
Background: Following the instructions of H.E. President Mahmoud Abbas, PICA deployed its Rapid Response and Rescue Team (PRRRT) to Libya, with the participation of highly qualified Palestinian specialists from the Civil Defense and the Ministry of Health, in cooperation with the Palestinian Broadcasting Corporation (PBC), to participate in the Libyan and international efforts to help lift the suffering of the affected people and communities as a result of the floods that struck Eastern Libya.
Purpose: 1. Provide support to the State of Libya in its rescue efforts following the devastating hurricane.
2. Strengthen bilateral relations between the State of Palestine and the State of Libya.
3. Convey a message of solidarity from the Palestinian people.
4. Ensure the presence of Palestine among international humanitarian players in the field.
Outputs: 1. Evacuate victims of the devastating floods.
2. Distribute food parcels and medical aid.
3. Provide medical treatment for displaced families. 
Activities: 1. Search and body retrieval operations.
2. Distributing medical and food aid including blankets and mattresses.
3. Conducting surgeries at Al-Wahda Hospital in Derna.
4. Visiting Palestinian expatriates to check on their safety and living conditions.
Working Framework: Humanitarian and Relief.
