2017 – PICA Medical Program in Rwanda

Background: Within PICA’s continuous efforts to realize the 2030 agenda, particularly promoting good health and well-being, a medical team was sent to King Faisal Hospital in Kigali to transfer Palestinian knowledge and expertise in orthopedic spinal cord surgery. This program reflected the great will of the Palestinian who travelled thousands of kilometers to express their solidarity and transfer knowledge to the Republic of Rwanda.
Purpose: This program aims at establishing a high quality pediatric spinal unit in King Faisal Hospital to perform as a center for capacity building on both the local and regional levels; it will also play an important role in supporting the health sector in Rwanda and enhancing methods of diagnoses.
Outputs: 1. The Palestinian medical team for orthopedic surgery conducted orthopedic spinal cord operations. 2. 25 Rwandan doctors were given lectures and trained on orthopedic surgery and chiropractic for children.
Activities: The transfer of knowledge in orthopedic surgery and chiropractic for children will take place in the course of four years to guarantee comprehensive and accurate transfer of knowledge in the field.
