2017 – Palestinian Relief Mission to Dominica

Background: The Palestinian Rapid Response and Rescue Team (PRRRT) was sent to Dominica in the immediate aftermath of Irma & Maria hurricanes. This action was under the direction of H.E President Mahmoud Abbas to actively participate in international relief efforts in the region. The team consisted of 36 members including specialized doctors, rescuers, paramedics, civil defense members and humanitarian relief and shelter experts.
Purpose: 1. Inspect and treat wounded individuals in the affected areas. 2. To provide relief and humanitarian support and contribute to the devastated areas. 3. To support the ongoing efforts of the Dominican Government and the international relief teams to overcome the impact of the deadly disaster.
Outputs: 1. Humanitarian aid and supplies (food, water, and medicine) provided to support the affected people. 2. Tents and electric generators provided to support the affected areas. 3. Bulldozers and roadwork equipment operated to clear paths leading to Dominica airport.
Activities: The Palestinian Rapid Response and Rescue Team got prepared for immediate action, PICA coordinated with the Embassy of the State of Palestine in Venezuela to provide Venezuelan Military helicopters to deliver the PRRRT and aid supplies to the affected areas.
Working Framework: Rapid Response and humanitarian support to promote South-South Cooperation.
