2016 – PICA Agricultural Program in Mauritania

Background: Within the framework of creating bridges of sincere and genuine relations between the Palestinian people and the people of Mauritania, and in accordance with the priorities set by Arab-Africa summits and the implementation of the 2030 Agenda, a program was designed to support the Agriculture sector in Mauritania by providing Agriculture specialist in many fields to train and raise the competence of Mauritanian technical staff in the many agricultural fields, especially the field of structure of agricultural dams and water harvesting. This program aims at showing solidarity with the people of Mauritania as well as reaching out to our friends in Africa.
Purpose: This Program aims at increasing the capacities and skills of farmers in Mauritania under the concept of South-South cooperation.
Outputs: 1. Eight dams were visited in different areas in Mauritania, reports were prepared by the Palestinian team to evaluate the situation of the dams, in parallel recommendations report was prepared to treat the problems in the 8 dams. 2. A report on how to develop fodder farming in Mauritania prepared.
Activities: 5 days of continuous work by the Palestinian delegation outcomes: 1. Preparing of recommendations reports for maintenance of dams 2. Preparing a report on how to develop fodder farming in Mauritania. 3. Building the technical and administrative capacities of the Mauritanian people in the field of water harvesting and dams.
